As a twenty-first century minister, social media is one aspect of the way I connect with parishioners and with the wider Unitarian Universalist movement. Social media can also be an aspect of a congregation’s public ministry. I practice social media with a personal tone, yet mindful of the boundaries appropriate to professional ministry. Here are a few ways to connect:
On Twitter, I post photos and short meditations, I amplify the voices of justice-seekers and grassroots activists, and I occasionally post or retweet something that touches on a personal interest.
On Tumblr, I share some of my own sermons and prayers. I also share or “reblog” items of interest to Unitarian Universalists, such as announcements from Skinner House Books and inspirational poems. Tumblr is a platform mainly used for short public messages and photographs.
On LinkedIn, I keep up with colleagues from the various industries and disciplines I have been involved with, from high tech to pastoral counseling. I do more listening than publishing on LinkedIn.
